About AUYL
AUYL is an excellent place to escape the city swirl. Nestled at the foothills of the Tian Shan mountains, just 30 minutes by car from Almaty, it sits at an elevation of over 1,700 metres and is definitely worth the trip.
While traditional Kazakh cuisine can be rich and challenging to pair with wine, AUYL chef Ruslan Zakirov elevates it to a more refined level. This "neo-nomadic" transformation, while controversial to some locals who feel it loses its identity, is a revelation to wine enthusiasts, melding local flavours with the sophistication of fine dining. Experienced sommelier Yulia Lomteva strives to achieve the best possible wine pairing experience. The extensive wine list is a meticulously crafted collection of local wines alongside global selections, with a focus on unconventionality and sustainability.
AUYL doubles as a museum, showcasing art pieces throughout its space. The building itself, once a residence for the country's dignitaries during the Soviet era and before, adds historical depth to the dining experience. The decor features natural materials, handcrafted tableware, and a "shamanic" playlist that enhances the atmosphere.
And an evening at AUYL can easily be paired with a morning hike in the mountains thanks to the nearby Medeu cable car, which will take you to the Shymbulak ski resort.
This unique location offers guests a seamless blend of nature and gastronomy.
