The corona guide - these wine places are open in Gothenburg

​In these times, it is obvious that we have to minimise the spread of corona, keeping distances and following restrictions. But our favourite bars and restaurants are having a true challenge, and we want them to survive – so here is our guide to the Star Wine List places in Gothenburg that are open right now.     Emma Ziemann, Swedish Sommelier champion 2018 about the restaurant Atelier at Hotel Pigalle in Gothenburg: "I am fond of Art Nouveau... This is a place I go to with my friends who are not wine nerds. The wine list has a lot of things, some straight-up good wines and some gems so that everyone finds something they like. It's a fun decor and you can drink cocktails! It's a place to relax at and just have a good time."

    In a tiny space off Aschebergsgatan in Gothenburg that used to host a dog hairdresser, Oskar Ahlvin has opened the eagerly awaited wine bar Bar La Lune. It's small, cosy, personal and extremely nice.

    Björns Bar is one of Gothenburg’s most classic wine bars and local and visiting wine lovers have enjoyed its casual atmosphere and tasty small dishes since 2006. Björn stands for restaurateur Björn Persson who also runs the star restaurant Koka upstairs.

    One-star Michelin restaurant Bhoga in Gothenburg has a seasonal way of sourcing produce, and courses are changed almost on a daily basis. The kitchen creates modern, Nordic fare with pure flavours and some playful surprises.

    The wine bar and restaurant Barsac in Gothenburg has a relaxed atmosphere, attracting both dinner guests and wine lovers on their way home from work. A massive bar gives space for spontaneous mini-tastings by the glass, while tasty bistro dishes are served from the kitchen.

    Hotel and restaurant Dorsia in Gothenburg is like a world of its own, drenched in gold, velvet curtains and Belle Époque-style. The restaurant is spacious and international. For both travelers and locals, Dorsia is a place to meet at any time of day.

    Niche Wine List Of The Year Nordic 2019

    The Champagne bar Kyrkogatan 13 imports their own champagnes which means you can find a unique selection of grower champagnes here, but you will also find grandes marques, and other types of wines. The champagne bar, formerly known as Forssén & Öberg, is one of the Gothenburg favourites of Swedish sommelier champion Emma Ziemann 2018: "It is a magical place to go after work, for an apéro or for a drink on the way home. It is a really good champagne bar with a cosy courtyard, what could go wrong?"

    Austrian Wine List of the Year Sweden, presented by Austrian Wine 2020

    Heaven 23 has much more to offer than just the stunning view from the Gothia hotel restaurant’s 23rd floor. Here you’ll find the iconic King Size shrimp sandwich (over one million served) but also plenty of other tasty dishes with locally sourced produce.

    Italian Wine List of the Year Sweden, presented by Mandrarossa 2020

    Trattoria La Strega is an Italian living room in the middle of Gothenburg. Rustic, relaxed and genuine, it is a favourite among chefs and sommeliers. As in Italy, produce takes centre stage here.

    Koka is one of Sweden’s best restaurants with a star from the Michelin guide and top ratings from White guide. Moreover, Koka has a solid wine heritage from Kock & Vin which the restaurant used to be called. Owner and wine lover Björn Persson has kept many classics in the cellar and on the wine list, such as mature vintages from Bordeaux, Rhone and Piedmont, but more modern and edgy wines can often be found in the wine pairings. The restaurant also has a direct import from Domaine Michel Magnien in Burgundy.

    The wine bar Olssons vin is situated on Tredje Långgatan. It serves small plates, wine and often quizzes on Tuesdays.

    Project is the wine bar and restaurant that serves both set menus and a la carte and it has been rewarded with a Bib gourmand by Guide Michelin. The menu is internationally inspired.

    Sjömagasinet in the harbour is one of Gothenburg’s most classical venues. Here, restaurateur Ulf Wagner and head chef Gustav Trägårdh present innovative and classic seafood dishes. The airy restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere, and service is impeccable.

    Tasty, exciting and uncomplicated. The kitchen at restaurant Natur in Gothenburg serves up beautiful dishes in modern, Nordic style. The wine list focuses on natural and organic producers, mainly from Europe.

    Master chef Stefan Karlsson has created a warm and cosy fine dining restaurant, rewarded with a Michelin star. The food is built on a Swedish tradition and you can order either a la carte or several tasting menus. There are wine pairings to go with the tasting menus but do not miss the wine list at SK Mat & Människor. The wine list gathers plenty of pearls from Champagne, Burgundy, Loire, Germany and the US, among others!

    Exclusive simplicity is the theme of Upper House Dining, the restaurant at the top of hotel Gothia Towers in Gothenburg. Recently, the fine dining part has gotten a neighbour with a more bistro casual style

    Restaurant 28+ has held its Michelin star for over 30 years, a record in Sweden. In 2016, they opened the wine bar Vinbaren 28+, a cosy corner with exclusive wines served by a very knowledgeable service staff. Snacks, small dishes and a small set menu accompanies the fine wine.

    Wine Mechanics is the first urban winery in Gothenburg and besides that a winery restaurant, pub, wine bar and meeting place in the Slakthuset-area in east Gothenburg. The winery’s own wines are made from grapes trucked from European growing areas and you can also find an ambitious wine list packed with wines from many countries. However, the top spots on the Wine Mechanics wine list are held for Pfalz and northern Rhone.

    Wolfgang vincafé has opened at Västra Hamngatan near Grönsakstorget in central Gothenburg. Here you can drop in for some classical dishes like Croque Monsieur or a shrimp sandwich. The ambiance is relaxed and friendly, although the locale is rather grand with large windows. In summer, the terrace is a good place to watch people stroll down the large sidewalk.

    This charming place in Majorna in Gothenburg serves tapas-style dishes in a Spanish style with influences from both Sweden and France. Apart from smaller snacks like charcuterie and bread with aioli, the dishes of the day are listed on the blackboard. The service is relaxed and homely, yet attentive and knowledgable. In short, a great spot for some snacks and a glass of wine – or a full dinner and some bottles.
