    Woodstockholm is both a local bistro and a furniture producer, hence the name. The bistro is small, cosy and serves top quality food with different themes throughout the year. The wine list has its edges in France and Spain and even lists one or two older Burgundies.

    Tranan is a classic brasserie at Odenplan that is frequented by locals and tourists looking for genuine “husman” cuisine. But it is also a very interesting wine address. Tranan has 12000 bottles of wine in its cellar and is unique in that many of them are not on the list. Every now and then the Bordeaux, Burgundy and Italian treasures are brought up on the list.

    The Winery Hotel is the impressive modern urban winery and hotel that has opened just north of Stockholm. It houses a winery, hotel, bar, restaurant and conference rooms. The wine list has wines from the hotel as well as Italian producer Terreno which shares the same owner, but also everything from natural wines to mature Bordeaux. In the bar a number of wines are available by the glass and in oenomatic machines. These wines rotate often and are not listed.

    The Sparrow is (despite the Anglo name) a French wine bar and restaurant attached to the Stockholm hotel with the same name. The venue is owned by Grand Hotel and its master chef Mathias Dahlgren has been involved in the cuisine. The wine list is both deep and wide for its size and considering it is a brand new venue in 2019. The cellars at Grand Hotel and Matbaren/Rutabaga have been cleverly raided to add flavour to the new spot's wine list.

    Teatergrillen opened in 1945 and is the sister restaurant of Riche, they also share the wine list. The dining room is one of the most beautiful in Stockholm and the classical cuisine and service are impeccable. Chances are you might notice one or two Swedish celebrities at any given night. The wine list boasts one of Stockholm’s heaviest Burgundy selections but with 900 listings, there is plenty of choice.

    Svartengrens states that it’s about meat, cocktails and love. May we add wine to that description? The restaurant sources all its meat from small farmers in Stockholm’s archipelago. The wine list sources from small producers as well and includes both natural and classical wines.

    Sushi Sho caused a splash when they were awarded a Michelin Star for their Omakase and Tsumami, the chef’s choice of sushi and small dishes to die for. All is served over the counter at high speed, like a proper Tokyo hangout. The wine and sake list is short but well balanced, and the cellar is growing.

    Stockholm’s beautiful City Hall is the place where the most famous dinner of them all is held every December 10: The Nobel Banquet. If you want to feel like a king or a Nobel laureate, just head to Stadshuskällaren where you can pre-order any Nobel Menu of your choice. Or enjoy an a la carte och fixed menu dinner. The wine list is classical with mature gems from Bordeaux and Burgundy.

    Spritmuseum’s restaurant is worth a detour out to Djurgården. Chef Petter Nilsson, well known on the international food avant-garde scene, creates menus from the seasonal produce and inspirations. The wine list is naturally inclined and focuses on vignerons that creates their own expressions from classic appellations, as well as producers from newer wine regions.

    Spanjorskan (The Spanish lady) has opened with warm colours and tasty Spanish food at Östermalm. The wine list is packed with Spanish wines, for which we are grateful. The wine list boasts a good selection of Sherries, several of them by the glass. But also wines from a large number of other Spanish wine regions, such as Aragon, Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Galicia, Bierzo and the islands of Majorca and the Canary islands.

    At Rutabaga, maestro Mathias Dahlgren creates the next generation’s lacto-ovo-vegetarian menu.     The restaurant has been named Riche since 1893 and carries the Swedish gastronomic legacy from master chef Tore Wretman.     Operakällaren in Stockholm’s Opera House is probably the most beautiful dining room in Sweden. And the service is like a scene from the Opera stage, professional, classic and warm.     Oaxen Krog stands for Nordic cuisine delivered at the highest level, rewarded with two Michelin stars. If there were a world cup in gastronomic beauty, Oaxen would win it. The presentations are edible works of art. The wine list at Oaxen is classical with only European selections and it includes verticals of both famous and lesser known producers. In Oaxen’s bistro Slip, you can enjoy a simpler cuisine in a beautiful setting.

    Lilla Ego is well known for being run by three Chefs of the Year in Sweden and for being fully booked. However, you can come early and wait around for one of the drop in seats to be free, you will not be alone, nor disappointed. Although people come for the food, we also like to go there for the wine and relaxed ambiance. The Lilla Ego two wine lists are not the longest in town, but there is real breadth. The wine lists wines from well known wine regions like Burgundy, Piedmont, Wachau and California – some with good age too.

    The Old Lady (yes, a Juventus connection) is still going strong on the east side of Södermalm. After a proper dish of pasta, you can work through the grappa selection in the bar. The wine list holds 200 Italian listings.

    Södermalm’s new brasserie La Colline became an instant hit, sitting on the highest point of Götgatan. La Colline serves Mediterranean food in a brasserie setting, with an experienced team from the brasserie Tranan at Odenplan (the two venues share ownership). Sommelier Anna Mellfors’ expertise in natural wines is on full display with a ton of wine to go with the delicious food.

    Ilse serves lunch and dinner Monday to Saturday where the Vasastan and Östermalm neighbourhoods meet. Ilse’s wine list carries plenty of classical wine regions such as Champagne, Alsace, Burgundy and Piedmont. But you will also find newer world-wines from wine regions and countries such as California, Australia and New Zealand. Note: Ilse has closed due to water damage, will open again early 2019.

    Hillenberg mixes Scandinavian and Southern European influences in a large but cosy setting close to Stureplan in central Stockholm. Hillenberg’s wine list mixes classic wine regions like Champagne, Burgundy, Piedmont and Bordeaux with newcomers like Oregon and California. If you’re just in the mood for a glass, the wine bar Helga has recently opened in a part of the restaurant.

    The rather angular exterior of the Waterfront Building does little to prepare you for the warm atmosphere you find inside. Among mismatched velvet chairs, deep sofas and a lively bar, grilled food and great wines are to be had. Griffin’s wine list has classics from Bordeaux and Burgundy but also a good selection of California wines. Champagne lovers also have plenty to choose from on the Griffins wine list.

    The grandest hotel in the city also boasts one of the grandest wine cellars, including a bottle from the year the hotel opened, 1874. The wine list is accessible in the hotel’s classic Veranda restaurant and Cadier bar, as well as in the Mathias Dahlgren restaurants Rutabaga and Matbaren.

    Gondolen is a classical restaurant at Slussen on Södermalm that you should visit when in Stockholm. The views are spectacular and the menu serves traditional Swedish husmanskost at a luxury level. The sister restaurant Speceriet serves simpler dishes at the highest level and has 10 wines on its list that changes daily. Guests at Speceriet can also order wines from Gastrologik’s main wine list.

    Fröken Vandal (Miss Vandal) may be Stockholm's first true hip hop wine bar, founded as it is by veteran rapper Petter and his crew. You might not believe it's a wine bar as you step in, as it kind of reminds you of a regular Södermalm bar, only amplified with heavy beats dropping from the speakers. But turn left, see the wine fridges bulging with vintage Barolos and you'll understand who's behind it: The Nebbiolo man Petter himself. The kitchen serves wine-friendly food and as a bonus it's open until 03 on weekends.

    Fem små hus means Five small houses and refers to the five Old Town buildings whose cellars have been joined to form this classic restaurant. The result is a meandering maze of beautiful vaulted rooms. The menu is classic and you should not miss the veal filet Anna Lindberg. The wine list of Fem små hus is also classically built and contains a vertical of Chateau Latour from Bordeaux. Near Österlånggatan Fem små hus has opened a wine bar which serves a number of wines by the glass but you can also order from the main wine list.

    Farang takes guests on a journey to Southeast Asian cuisines. The restaurant is located in an old factory hall and the rustic backdrop contrasts with the warm atmosphere. The wine list at Farang is particularly impressive for an Asian restaurant with many classical districts represented. The focus is on Riesling and Pinot Noir.

    Ett Hem is the exclusive hotel with a homely feel that also houses a fine restaurant. The orangerie in the courtyard gives you a feeling of being at Fäviken in the middle of a city.     Djuret (The animal) is always evolving and it is therefore a good idea to check their website to see what the kitchen is up to at the moment. Whatever it is, it will be tasty and comfortable. At the bar the menu is a la carte and specials often including great wine deals. The wine cellar is legendary, good value and its wines can also be ordered from the sister venues Flickan and The Burgundy.

    The most classic of all classic Stockholm restaurants, Den Gyldene Freden has been around since 1722 and every Thursday the Swedish Academy dines here. To go with the Swedish Husmanskost, Den Gyldene Freden has a serious wine list heavily dominated by French classics, but also plenty of California heavies.

    Axel Rolph Hansson was actually looking for a venue at Södermalm to open a wine bar. The locals of the suburb Bagarmossen are lucky that he failed to find one and instead opened Centan. This charming joint serves artisanal wines and tasty dishes both for lunch and dinner, six days a week.

    Café Nizza is one of Stockholm neighbourhood Södermalm’s hottest restaurants and wine bars, serving a menu of delicious food with French and Italian influences. Café Nizza’s wine list is mostly sourced from the Old World’s wine regions.

    Bar Central is the right place if you’re tired of new Nordic minimalism. A hearty central European cuisine is served with either proper Pilsner or a very good range of Rieslings and Grüner Veltliners from Germany and Austria. Hungary and Croatia are also present on the list of over 200 wines.

    One of Sweden’s best restaurants is hidden behind a furniture store in a Stockholm suburb and that is perhaps why it took Michelin a few years to award it a star. If you can find it, you’re rewarded with a very original and sometimes spicy cuisine with influences ranging from Japan to North Africa. To the set menu you can drink a wine pairing or browse the Aloê wine list where France leads the numbers before the US and Italy.
