Tranan is a classic brasserie at Odenplan that is frequented by locals and tourists looking for genuine “husman” cuisine. But it is also a very interesting wine address. Tranan has 12000 bottles of wine in its cellar and is unique in that many of them are not on the list. Every now and then the Bordeaux, Burgundy and Italian treasures are brought up on the list.

The Winery Hotel is the impressive modern urban winery and hotel that has opened just north of Stockholm. It houses a winery, hotel, bar, restaurant and conference rooms. The wine list has wines from the hotel as well as Italian producer Terreno which shares the same owner, but also everything from natural wines to mature Bordeaux. In the bar a number of wines are available by the glass and in oenomatic machines. These wines rotate often and are not listed.

The Sparrow is (despite the Anglo name) a French wine bar and restaurant attached to the Stockholm hotel with the same name. The venue is owned by Grand Hotel and its master chef Mathias Dahlgren has been involved in the cuisine. The wine list is both deep and wide for its size and considering it is a brand new venue in 2019. The cellars at Grand Hotel and Matbaren/Rutabaga have been cleverly raided to add flavour to the new spot's wine list.

Teatergrillen opened in 1945 and is the sister restaurant of Riche, they also share the wine list. The dining room is one of the most beautiful in Stockholm and the classical cuisine and service are impeccable. Chances are you might notice one or two Swedish celebrities at any given night. Spanjorskan (The Spanish lady) has opened with warm colours and tasty Spanish food at Östermalm. The wine list is packed with Spanish wines, for which we are grateful. The wine list boasts a good selection of Sherries, several of them by the glass. Oaxen Krog stands for Nordic cuisine delivered at the highest level, rewarded with two Michelin stars. If there were a world cup in gastronomic beauty, Oaxen would win it. Lilla Ego is well known for being run by three Chefs of the Year in Sweden and for being fully booked. However, you can come early and wait around for one of the drop in seats to be free, you will not be alone, nor disappointed. Although people come for the food, we also like to go there for the wine and relaxed ambiance. The Lilla Ego two wine lists are not the longest in town, but there is real breadth. The Old Lady (yes, a Juventus connection) is still going strong on the east side of Södermalm. After a proper dish of pasta, you can work through the grappa selection in the bar. The wine list holds 200 Italian listings.

Södermalm’s new brasserie La Colline became an instant hit, sitting on the highest point of Götgatan. Ilse serves lunch and dinner Monday to Saturday where the Vasastan and Östermalm neighbourhoods meet. Ilse’s wine list carries plenty of classical wine regions such as Champagne, Alsace, Burgundy and Piedmont. The rather angular exterior of the Waterfront Building does little to prepare you for the warm atmosphere you find inside. Among mismatched velvet chairs, deep sofas and a lively bar, grilled food and great wines are to be had. The grandest hotel in the city also boasts one of the grandest wine cellars, including a bottle from the year the hotel opened, 1874. The wine list is accessible in the hotel’s classic Veranda restaurant and Cadier bar, as well as in the Mathias Dahlgren restaurants Rutabaga and Matbaren.

Fröken Vandal (Miss Vandal) may be Stockholm's first true hip hop wine bar, founded as it is by veteran rapper Petter and his crew. You might not believe it's a wine bar as you step in, as it kind of reminds you of a regular Södermalm bar, only amplified with heavy beats dropping from the speakers. But turn left, see the wine fridges bulging with vintage Barolos and you'll understand who's behind it: The Nebbiolo man Petter himself. The kitchen serves wine-friendly food and as a bonus it's open until 03 on weekends.

Fem små hus means Five small houses and refers to the five Old Town buildings whose cellars have been joined to form this classic restaurant. The result is a meandering maze of beautiful vaulted rooms. The menu is classic and you should not miss the veal filet Anna Lindberg. The wine list of Fem små hus is also classically built and contains a vertical of Chateau Latour from Bordeaux. Near Österlånggatan Fem små hus has opened a wine bar which serves a number of wines by the glass but you can also order from the main wine list.

Djuret (The animal) is always evolving and it is therefore a good idea to check their website to see what the kitchen is up to at the moment. Whatever it is, it will be tasty and comfortable. The most classic of all classic Stockholm restaurants, Den Gyldene Freden has been around since 1722 and every Thursday the Swedish Academy dines here. Axel Rolph Hansson was actually looking for a venue at Södermalm to open a wine bar. The locals of the suburb Bagarmossen are lucky that he failed to find one and instead opened Centan. This charming joint serves artisanal wines and tasty dishes both for lunch and dinner, six days a week.
